Escondido house fire displaces 2 residents [Breaking]
Two Escondido residents escaped a house fire that damaged a bedroom and had them securing temporary lodging on Sunday, an official said.
The fire started about 10:35 a.m. on Fairdale Avenue near East Grand Avenue, not far from Oak Hill Elementary School. Escondido Fire Department spokesperson Jeff Murdock said a 911 caller reported black smoke billowing from the front of the house. As firefighters responded, they saw a plume of smoke in the sky and called for additional units. When crews arrived, the residents were outside. The two men had safely evacuated on their own, Murdock said.“We got it under control pretty quickly,” Murdock said. He added that the fire was largely extinguished within about 20 minutes.
Firefighters called in paramedics to check whether the residents suffered smoke inhalation, but the residents, who were “alert and oriented,” declined medical treatment, Murdock said. The Red Cross was called on to assist the residents with temporary lodging.
