BBC Escape to the Country viewers were left stunned earlier this week when a young couple revealed their whopping budget for their first shared home - but Jack has now explained how they came to have such a staggering fortune
This week, BBC Escape to the Country viewers were left surprised when a young couple revealed their huge budget for their first shared home. Civil servant Anna and consultant Jack, who are engaged and each own a flat in St Albans, admitted they had a large budget for their dream home in Buckinghamshire.
After BBC viewers called the young couple 'privileged' and 'spoiled' for having such a large budget for their first home, Jack has admitted that their money was given to them in sad circumstances. Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, the Escape to the Country guest admitted that the large budget for their first home came from inheritance.
With limited supply, price increases have far outstripped wage growth for nearly fifty years, said Jack. Viewers were shocked by the huge figure and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express their disbelief. One viewer wrote: "Mums got escape to the country on and a couple younger than me have just rocked up with a budget of £850,000 for their first home and let me tell you, the deep guttural "oh f** right off" I just let out could be heard from space."
However, not everyone was upset as one BBC viewer praised the couple, saying: "Couple on #EscapeToTheCountry are so charming. How lovely it would be if all twenty-somethings were like this. They have such an appreciation of the countryside, lifestyle and architecture. Hope they live happily ever after."
