ERCOT is asking Texans to conserve power after six power plants went down earlier today. This comes as sweltering heat is expected throughout the weekend.
TEXAS — As temperatures continue to rise across the state, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas is asking Texans to conserve power.
ERCOT said Friday afternoon, six power generation facilities tripped offline resulting in the loss of approximately 2,900 MW of electricity. All generation resources available are operating. ERCOT said unseasonably high temperatures are driving power demand, and is asking Texans to conserve power when they can.
Texans can reduce energy use by setting their thermostats to 78-degrees or above and avoiding the usage of large appliances, such as dishwashers, washers and dryers, during peak hours between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. through the weekend.
