The former Test captain appeared to fear becoming a crime victim in an online taunt directly addressing Mr Khan on X, formerly Twitter.
England cricket legend Kevin Pietersen has aimed a barb at London 's mayor Sadiq Khan as he took off his expensive watch and wedding ring for a trip to the capital.
He uploaded a photo of his hand this morning, accompanied by the words: 'Gotta go into London today. No watch and a flimsy piece of plastic on my wedding finger. Well done, @Sadiq Khan!' Another X user wrote: 'I do the same. Never wear a nice watch in London, or any city for that matter to be honest.'
Another poster said: 'I've been to London hundreds if not thousands of times and never felt unsafe and never had to take off watch or rings.Pietersen has worked with Hublot as an ambassador including helping them design limited-edition watches sold to raise funds for non-profit conservation organisations backed by his charity SORAI, Save Our Rhinos Africa & India.
Other figures earlier this year revealed more teenage homicides were recorded in London in 2023 than in 2022 - with 21 killed compared to 14 the year before.
