Pearland pitcher Kaiden Shelton was facing Isaiah Jarvis with an 0-2 count in the first inning when he lost control of a pitch that hit Jarvis in his helmet’s ear flap, sending the helmet flying off and Jarvis to the ground. After being attended to by field personnel, Jarvis opted to remain in the game and take his base, but Shelton appeared shaken up on the mound. Seeing his opponent battling his emotions, Jarvis left first base and calmly walked toward the mound to give Shelton a big hug and some encouraging words.
As the Pearland coach and infielders joined the pair on the mound, an ESPN microphone picked up a player – presumably Jarvis - telling Shelton, “Hey, you’re doing just great. Let’s go.” A
