It’s the third time Clase has claimed the honor and the second monthly award for Kwan this year.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Emmanuel Clase and Steven Kwan are the American League reliever and rookie of the month for September.
Clase leads the majors with 42 saves and went 10-for-12 in save opportunities in September with a 2.25 ERA and 16 strikeouts in 16 innings. He has won three of the last for AL Reliever of the Month awards, including the past two in a row. He earned the honor once in 2021. Kwan, whose hot start led to a Rookie of the Month award in April, finished strong in September, earning his first AL Player of the Week award last week when he hit .438 with two triples, two home runs, 10 RBI and four steals against the White Sox and Rangers. Cleveland’s left fielder hit .325 in September with three home runs, 14 RBI, two doubles, two triples and 13 walks while striking out only 12 times.
Kwan logged a seven-game hitting streak from Sept. 17-23 that included five multi-hit efforts and 16 hits overall. He has 166 hits on the season, the most by a Cleveland rookie since Kenny Lofton’s 164 in 1992. His 10 defensive outs above average are the most by a left fielder in the majors.
