Part one of the ECHO's exclusive chat with Liverpool midfield Harvey Elliott on his early days at Anfield and playing a part in a Premier League title win in 2020
Harvey Elliott was just weeks removed from making Premier League history when he took a phone call that changed his life over four years ago.
"I didn't think it was real!" he tells the ECHO. "I can't really put it into words. Coming home from holiday to finalise the deal. It was all just a dream come true." Despite winning the Champions League, Liverpool's summer transfer activity in 2019 was understated with Elliott, as one of the most exciting youngsters in the country, the standout recruit alongside fellow teen Sepp van den Berg and veteran goalkeeper Adrian, who was signed to provide cover for Alisson Becker.
By then, it was apparent Liverpool were on course to finally end that three-decade wait to get their hands on league title No.19 and so it proved when the squad got together at the plush Formby Hall resort to watch Manchester City stumble at Chelsea in late June to officially cement Klopp's men as champions of England.
Elliott says: "I am not sure if it was medal, it could have been his but I got one at the end of the day, I walked into the changing room after the parade and the presentations and they gave it to me then. Fresh from picking up a Premier League winners' medal inside his first year at Anfield, the transfer window of 2020 presented Elliott with an entirely new challenge when Blackburn Rovers came calling.
"I felt like it kind of set me up in my football career," Elliott says. "It got me adapted quickly to the men's game, especially with the Championship. Some teams are out there to hurt because everyone wants to get promoted and no-one wants to get relegated either and it was a great place to learn. The Reds youngster has gone from a teenage hopeful to first-team star and now, in a younger and new-look Liverpool squad, he is now taking on more seniority within the group aged 20.
