A new cache of documents has been released containing fresh details about what Boris Johnson knew about Partygate. Ahead of the ex-prime minister’s evidence to the Privileges Committee, here are eight things we’ve learnt from the evidence bundle:

. The data release points to how the Privileges Committee will frame their questioning and reveals more insight into how No10 staff viewed the Prime Minister’s conduct throughout that period.

In his written evidence to the committee published on Tuesday, Mr Johnson said he had been assured that such gatherings were within the covid rules at the time. The evidence bundle prepared by the committee is broken down into each of the No10 parties that were investigated by. For each one, the committee sets out what Mr Johnson said at the time, in public broadcasts and in the Commons, about covid rules and guidance that were in place.

His own evidence bundle suggests he will rely on the evidence of a No10 official saying they cannot recall Mr Johnson being warned.Nevertheless, it is clear from the new documents that a) the garden party was well-planned and b) several members of staff had serious concerns about it. In evidence to the Privileges Committee last month, Mr Case denied he had given any assurances to Mr Johnson that covid rules and guidance were followed at all times in No10. He also denied that he had ever assured Mr Johnson that no parties were held in No10 during the period of covid restrictions.

Mr Doyle said: “It is difficult to say that guidelines of this nature were followed at all times, and it would not be possible for me to say that they were. In contrast, it was my belief at the time I advised the Prime Minister that Covid-19 rules around social gatherings were not broken.”
