A longtime public servant, the incumbent representative knows her district well and how...
knows her constituents at a deeper level than many, and it seems to inform everything she does as their voice in Congress.
Garcia, 72, has made it her mission to stand up for her district and working-class families in Congress and throughout her long career in public service. Her district has the most construction workers, she said, and so she proposed legislation that would mandate at least a 15-minute break every four hours for them.
If the House flips this election, Garcia said she won’t be fazed. She has pieces of bipartisan legislation already in the works, partnering with Republican Sen. John Cornyn on funding for NASA, for example. She supported several recent crime bills that would create grant programs for local police forces to improve their homicide clearance rates, fund better training and retention and even add more officers.
