Chicago Ald. Carlos Ramirez-Rosa verbally and physically harassed one of his aldermanic colleagues, Emma Mitts. There's no excuse.
On Sunday night, Mayor Brandon Johnson was at Steppenwolf Theatre, watching a play about a dysfunctional White House lurching from one crisis to another. Even at the theater, he had to dodge an intermission question from a pesky journalist — these reporters with their questions, spoiling a mayor’s date night — about the goings-on at City Hall on Thursday. Therein, Johnson’s floor leader and chair of the Zoning, Landmarks, and Building Standards committee, Ald.
And he’s not looking for anyone to press charges. By Monday afternoon, Ald, Scott Waguespack, 32, had released the draft of a letter calling for a City Council censure. What do we deduce from all this chaos? For starters, quorum should be about attendance, period. If an alderman is there, or in the environs of there and headed there, they should be allowed to enter the chamber unimpeded.
