A broken rail between the capital and Berwick-Upon-Tweed caused severe disruption for those travelling to and from Newcastle.
Train passengers in Edinburgh faced major disruption on Sunday as massive queues snaked out of Waverley Station.
One couple, who were hoping to get back down home after spending a few days in the capital, said: "We are just trying to get back down to Durham. We have been told that there are about six hours worth of train journeys in the queue in front of us and that it's first come first serve. Not really sure what to do and whether it's worth the wait to be honest. Who knows how long it will take.
