The EZY3111 flight took off at around 12.15pm as scheduled, but was forced to land at Gatwick after a hydraulic pump on the aircraft failed.
A major fault on an easyJet flight from Glasgow to Gran Canaria triggered an emergency landing this afternoon.
An image of the flight path shared by the FlightAware website showed the airplane had travelled down the west coast of England before it had to head back towards London due to the technical fault. An easyJet spokesperson said: “We can confirm that flight EZY3111 from Glasgow to Gran Canaria diverted to Gatwick due to a technical issue. The aircraft landed safely in Gatwick and was met by emergency services as a routine and precautionary measure only.
“The safety of our customers and crew is EasyJet's highest priority and we would like to apologise to customers for the delay and inconvenience caused.”
