Sean Dyche only turned to his bench in the 90th minute of Everton's most recent fixture

Sean Dyche has his own views on substitutions and remains committed to them through changes to the game.

While Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi repeatedly refreshed his side in the search for an equaliser, Dyche only turned to his squad after the cruel deflection from a Kaoru Mitoma cross restored parity. Asked for his thoughts on his use of substitutes, Dyche said ahead of Everton’s trip to Crystal Palace: “When the team is operating in a manner that I want it to operate in then I am not going to change just for change’s sake. That is it in a nutshell. When the team is operating in a manner that I want it to operate in and that I believe in, then I don’t change things for the sake of changing.”

For Dyche, his bank of evidence on this topic extends further back than his time on Merseyside - last season, he told the ECHO: “If the team is operating in the manner that I think is right, other than fatigue or injury of course, then I don’t tinker too much. My stats and the facts on that have paid me back.
