The DWP has issued a warning to anyone who is being moved from the old benefits system to Universal Credit, as they could miss out on payments if they ignore a key date on their migration notice letter
The Department for Work and Pensions has sent out an urgent reminder about a Universal Credit claim deadline. If you're a benefits recipient currently being moved from the old system to Universal Credit, pay close attention to your migration notice letter or you could miss out on payments.
Remember, the switch isn't automatic - most will need to get ready to re-apply for their benefits. Roughly one in four benefit recipients in the UK still uses the old system - this was meant to end this year, but due to the pandemic it's been pushed back to 2028 or 2029, reports the Manchester Evening News.
A DWP spokesperson said: "If you cannot claim Universal Credit by the deadline date, you should contact the Universal Credit Migration Notice helpline as soon as possible."It said: "We can only give you more time to make a claim if you have a good reason. You must request this before the deadline date on your letter."
