There’s less than a week until eight million people are expecting to receive the £299 cost of living payment. The third cost of living payment, totalling £900, is due to be paid between 6 February and 22 February 2024.
‘£300 payments in October’ The messages from the DWP said the next cost of living payment would be for £300, and would be paid from October 31 to November 19′, reported by BirminghamLive. More than 8 million households are expecting to get the £299 cash boost later this month to help with the rising costs of food, energy bills and other essentials.
However, if you claim both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit, you’ll get the £299 payment from HMRC. Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, Mel Stride, explained that funding will instead go towards helping parents get back to work.‘We know that the best way to secure long-term financial security is through employment, so we’re rolling out the next generation of welfare reforms to put thousands more people on a pathway off benefits and into work.’
Initially, the HSF was due to close on 31 March. However, in his spring Budget, the Chancellor announced he will extend the HSF for a fifth time – with a £500m cash injection to councils to allow them to re-open their schemes until September 2024. ‘Applications for the £200 of support are now open to any resident across the borough who may be eligible. But it’s not just Bromley residents who can benefit from this cash help – households across the country are able to get help through the HSF too. Here’s how your local council can help you with supermarket vouchers, cash payments, energy grants and more.
Bromley Council can only provide one award per round of funding and multiple applications from either a household or individual will not be accepted. It was initially introduced in 2021, with the DWP allocating £842 million of help to local councils this tax year. Other councils will be waiting to see how much of the £500m funding they will receive, before announcing how they will help their residents between now and September. If your local council is not here, check with your local authority to see what help might be available to you.
It might sound too good to be true but Aldi is recruiting shoppers to try its wine – for free. The budget supermarket is known for selling quality wine at bargain prices, with a number of its tipples gaining gold, silver and bronze medals at prestigious wine awards. All they need to do in exchange is post an honest review of the wine on their social media channels using the hashtag #AldiWineClub.
‘It helps the buying team shape wine ranges into what they are – great tasting, award-winning, delivering on both quality and price. We look forward to welcoming the next thirty Aldi Wine Club members on board.’ 3. Sniff: ‘You don’t really taste wine, you smell wine – so this stage is important,’ says Sam. ‘Take short, sharp sniffs rather than breathing in deeply for a long time.’
In a three-step guide, the financial journalist told viewers how to switch phone network providers before prices rise, to keep your prices low while sticking to a speedy network. If you haven’t changed anything for two years, for example, switched provider or got a device upgrade, you’re ‘likely one of 14 million out of contract’ and could be paying far more than you need to be, Martin explained.
‘What about my signal?’ Martin said: ‘Lots of people say to me “I won’t switch ’cause I’m worried about my signal” … There are only four networks in the UK, the rest are piggyback networks.’For example, Tesco Mobile and GiffGaff both use O2’s network and Tesco and GiffGaff will be just as fast as O2.The email read: ‘Thank you Martin Lewis for the information on your show about monthly mobile phone payments.
It means a lone parent aged 18 or over on Income Support could get an extra payout of £169.60, while a couple who are both aged 18 or over would get an extra £266.60 over the two-week period. ‘The DWP aims to send migration notices to these households – around 440,000 in total – by September 2024.’Claimants will be sent a letter asking them to apply for Universal Credit and giving them a date to apply by .
However, Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit are both paid by HMRC, not DWP, and anyone on these benefits won’t be paid the extra cash. What is Universal Credit? Universal Credit is an all-in-one government benefit to help with living costs. Lutfur Rahman, executive mayor of Tower Hamlets said: ‘We are doing all that we can to help ease the burden of the cost of living crisis.
He added: ‘For some families, the financial pressures are immense and we want to make sure this funding gets to those who need it – some of whom will not be getting any other support.’Initially introduced in 2021, the government allocated £842 million worth of help to local councils, to spend on their residents.
In North Yorkshire Council you could get vouchers worth £450 to be used at Sainsbury’s, Aldi, Morrisons and more.West Sussex County Council is providing supermarket vouchers in varying amounts. This follows campaigns from local councils and charities to extend the Fund and continue to help families who need it most.
‘Managed migration’ aims to to streamline benefits, replacing ‘legacy benefits’ with Universal Credit. ‘The DWP aims to send migration notices to these households – around 440,000 in total – by September 2024.’What is a migration notice? This is a letter you’ll receive from the government telling you to move from your legacy benefit over to Universal Credit.
Managed migration, also referred to as ‘Move to UC’ by the DWP, started in April 2023 and followed a successful pilot in Harrogate, Yorkshire, in July 2019. On the Gov.uk website, the DWP warns: ‘You need to move to Universal Credit if you’ve received a Migration Notice, as one or more of your benefits will be ending soon.’
Martin Lewis has warned account holders of one high street bank to ‘ditch’ their accounts and switch to something better, after customers were sent an email telling them their savings rate was about to be cut. The Money Saving Expert told Santander customers it was time to change to an alternative savings account, after previously praising the bank’s fantastic offer.
Telling them to ‘ditch and switch’ their savings in favour of an alternative account, Martin explained: ‘Your account has a variable interest rate which means it can go up and down. We’re reducing the interest rate because of expected changes in the interest rates we receive. The benefit of an easy access savings account, Money Saving Expert adds, is that you can withdraw cash from these accounts whenever you want, which is especially useful if you need to dip into them regularly.
Current offers include NatWest and the Royal Bank of Scotland, who are both offering up to £200 free cash to anyone who switches to one of their current accounts.New study reveals money ‘confidence gap’ among women The Fund, which is money give to local councils to help low-income families in their area, was due to end for good on 31 March but will now run until 31 September 2024.‘I have decided that – with the battle against inflation still not over – now is not the time to stop the targeted help it offers. We will therefore continue it at current levels for another six months.’
Mr Hunt said he will now work towards a ‘household-based system to be introduced in 2026’, but for the time being he will increase the threshold at which parents have to pay tax on Child Benefit. This follows an existing 2% cut which Mr Hunt announced in the Autumn Statement that came into action from the beginning of the year.
The DRO is essentially a statement that says you can’t pay off your debts, cancelling certain payments, helping you to get a fresh start financially but impacting your credit score for six years. But following his announcement in the Spring Budget, you will no longer have to pay the £90 fee from 6 April.
