Government Secretary of State Mel Stride has been unable to attend meetings with women born in the 1950s who have been affected by changes to the state pension age
Government Secretary of State Mel Stride has given an update to campaigners battling to get compensation for historic pensions changes which led some women to miss out on large sums of money. In a response to a question, the Department for Work and Pensions explained why Mr Stride was unable to attend any requested meetings with women born in the 1950s who have been affected by changes to the State Pension age.
However, stage two of the investigation has been delayed due to a legal challenge which means the final publication from the Ombudsman will be delayed while this takes place. Earlier this week, SNP MP Dr Philippa Whitford, asked whether the DWP boss “plans to meet” with those women to “discuss this issue”, after being sent meeting requests in August and September.
“Section 7 of the Parliamentary Commissioner Act 1967 states that Ombudsman investigations “shall be conducted in private”.
