Most UK motorists will have to pay more to own a vehicle from next week
UK motorists have just one week until new higher car tax rates come into effect - with some drivers forced to pay out hundreds more pounds each year.
That said, those who have a fully electric vehicle are still exempt from paying VED fees - for now. From Monday, April 1, cars registered on or after April 1, 2017, will pay £10 more with standard rates rising from £180 to £190. First-year VED bands for cars registered after April 1, 2021, will also jump up based on their CO2 emissions. For example, a car that gives off between one and 50g/km CO2 will have to pay £10 road tax.
