Only the DUP's opposition to the NI Protocol "exposed its flaws" and shaped debate on a new arrangement, Sir Jeffrey Donaldson will say later.The DUP walked out of power-sharing at Stormont 18 months ago in protest over post-Brexit trade rules.
It has been involved in talks with Number 10 for several months in a bid to reach an accommodation, with Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris recently saying he believes those negotiations are in their "final stages".Sir Jeffrey is expected to update members on his negotiations with the government over changes they want to see to the Windsor Framework.
"The rights of unionists cannot be diminished, sidelined or treated in a way that is less important than nationalists," he will say.
