Hans Zimmer's Pink Floyd 'Eclipse' cover from the Dune trailer makes a perfect soundtrack for Denis Villeneuve's other sci-fi epic, Blade Runner 2049.
Blade Runner 2049 trailer becomes even more epic with the Dune soundtrack. Director Denis Villeneuve adapted half of Frank Herbert’s classic novel into a massive 2021 event film and has now been given the go-ahead by Warner Bros. to finish the job with Dune: Part 2.
Before tackling Herbert’s legendarily dense and difficult work, Villeneuve of course first revived the world of Blade Runner with his 2017 sequel starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. Both Blade Runner 2049 and Dune are obviously visual feasts, but the two movies also feature memorable music composed by the prolific Hans Zimmer .
Ultimately the most memorable music associated with Villeneuve’s Dune probably is the trailer song Zimmer created out of the Pink Floyd tune, much more so than any bits of score from the actual film. Of course Dune is more about powerful images than anything and the score in that movie’s case does its job as background. Blade Runner 2049 on the other hand feels much more like a true merging of music and image, in keeping with the spirit of the first Blade Runner and its own iconic score.
