Motorcyclist died after falling from vehicle that kept moving, police say
Thomas Toolan, 35, of Lebanon was driving his 2008 Harley-Davidson east on the 7600 block of Allentown Boulevard “at a suspected high speed” when he drifted onto the right shoulder and struck the guide rail, state police said.
The impact launched Toolan from the motorcycle and he struck his head before coming to a final stop on the right shoulder, where he was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said. Meanwhile, his motorcycle continued traveling eastbound before crossing the concrete median in the middle of the road. The Harley continued across both westbound lanes and struck two trailers in a nearby parking lot before coming to a final rest, according to state police.State police initially believed the incident to be a pedestrian hit-and-run incident until they could locate the motorcycle, which had traveled almost a quarter of a mile down the road after the crash.
South Central EMS, West Hanover Township Fire Department, East Hanover Township Fire Department, the Dauphin County Coroners Office and Dingmans Towing assisted state police at the scene.
