A Bethlehem-area woman was killed in the crash while driving with her granddaughter. A 20-year-old man has been charged.
A 20-year-old was charged Thursday with homicide by vehicle and related charges in a high-speed, two-car crash that killed a grandmother from Northampton County, authorities said., was driving with her 7-year-old granddaughter in a black 2007 Ford Explorer when the SUV was struck by a car estimated to be driving around 90 mph about 5:45 p.m. Sept. 14 in Franconia Township, Montgomery County, according to township police.
The force of the impact caused the Ford to roll over before coming to rest upright on the side of the road, near the intersection with Milburn Court, according to police. Using home surveillance footage, investigators determined Dierkes was driving between 84 and 97 mph just prior to the crash, according to police. The speed limit on the two-lane road where the crash occurred is 35 mph, police wrote in court records.
