A major incident has been declared for Nottinghamshire
Torrential rain from Storm Babet has led to heavy flooding across parts of Nottinghamshire. Crews from Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service have been working across the county, and at 2pm today they had five fire engines working in Stapleford to help rescue 59 people and 12 animals from the area.
A post on Stapleford Fire Station's Facebook page stated: "We advise the public to avoid the area, not to walk along the Erewash and stay out of flood waters. If you see a person in trouble in the water, please ring 999 and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service. Never go in the water yourself. "Thank you to our partners who have supported us over the last 28 hours. The incident is on-going and updates will continue throughout the coming days."On the other side of the River Erewash, Sandiacre in Derbyshire, has also been heavily impacted by the flooding. Residents from the town have also been rescued due to the flooding by The Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Photos captured via drone by local residents in Sandiacre show that multiple streets have been impacted by flooding. This comes as a Major Incident has been declared for Nottinghamshire and the city of Nottingham itself. Due to the heavy rain from Storm Babet, further peaks in water levels on the River Derwent are expected and this will lead to a higher risk of flooding in communities along the River Trent.
