From driving in Halloween fancy dress to splashing trick-or-treaters, there are many laws drivers might be unaware they are breaking this spooky season.
Halloween is nearly here, and whilst people are preparing their costumes and getting ready for a night of trick-or-treating, there are rules that UK drivers need to be aware of to avoid hefty fines.
Julie Daniels, car insurance expert at Compare the Market, said: "When heading to your Halloween party this spooky season, make sure you’re fully aware of the rules of the road to ensure you keep yourself, and others, safe. Under Rule 148 of the Highway Code, which covers careless or inconsiderate driving, playing loud music can distract the motorist from safely driving the road.
So, while dressing up this Halloween isn’t a problem in itself, if the costume prevents the driver from using the vehicle’s controls in the correct manner, they would be in breach of rule 97 of the Highway Code. Rule 94 of the Highway Code states that drivers shouldn’t use tinted glasses, lenses, or visors at night if they restrict their vision as this can impact the control of the vehicle and the view of the road and traffic ahead.
