A van driver who left a teenager for dead after ploughing into him was so drunk that police officers had to pinch his ears to wake him up.
The teen was thrown onto a grass verge, where he lay amid debris from the shattered shelter ‘covered in blood’ with fractures to his skull and face. They tracked him down to his home address in Chesterton using a letter he’d left inside the van and spotted him slumped on the sofa through a window. The dad-of-four blew 122mcgs of alcohol in 100ml of breath – more than three times the legal drink-driving limit.
