U.S. stocks finished higher on Monday after wavering between gains and losses for most of the session as investors wait for the Federal Reserve to deliver another jumbo interest-rate hike later this week. The S&P 500 SPX, +0.69% advanced 26.56 points, or 0.7%, to 3,899.89. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 197.26 points, or 0.6%, to 31,019.68.
The Nasdaq Composite COMP, +0.76% advanced 86.62 points, or 0.8%, to 11,535.02. The next two-day meeting of the Fed's policy-setting committee begins Tuesday, and will culminate with a decision on the size of the next Fed interest-rate hike on Wednesday --- as well as an updated batch of economic projections. Investors expect the Fed to raise its rate target by at least 75 basis points.
