A recent Ipsos poll found that 18% of Gen Z identify as part of the LGBT community, versus only 10% of millennials.
In a section called “LGBT+ Visibility,” the study's authors wrote that “Consistent with self-identification, the prevalence of knowing someone who is LGBT+ is much higher among younger adults than among older adults.”The popular explanation for this is acceptance. Because society has become more accepting of the LGBT community, more people are comfortable coming out as their true selves.
Society’s “acceptance” of LGBT ideology is not the only factor causing these hoards of young folk to come out. Gen Z is constantly seeking acceptance and validation. Today’s youth does not feel accepted by society. And this is why so many of them depend on communities like that of TikTok.On TikTok, attractive young people post a short clip of themselves lip-syncing, and have the potential to go viral overnight.
This is because “fluidity” is the new anti-authoritarianism. The rebellion of Gen Z is to choose ignorance in the face of biological fact. The idea that there are two genders is old-school.
