Former President Donald Trump canceled Monday's highly anticipated press briefing that he said would have included the release of a report he claimed should lead to his exoneration in the Georgia 2020 election case.
Trump took to social media to announce the cancellation, claiming the information he would have presented would be included in formal legal filings instead.
Trump had also stated that the report should exonerate the 18 other people who were listed in Monday's indictment and face their own charges. Others included in the indictment were his lawyers, including Rudy Giuliani and John Eastman, and his former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The press briefing was expected to take place on Aug. 21 in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The 41-count indictment was released just before midnight last Monday, and it accuses the defendants of unlawfully conspiring to conduct and participate in a"criminal enterprise" following Trump's 2020 election loss in Georgia. Trump himself was indicted on 13 counts, which include racketeering charges. The latest indictment is Trump's fifth, but it came in only the fourth criminal case.
The cancellation comes on the same day that Trump's legal team requested his trial in Washington, D.C., be delayed until 2026 so his team has adequate time to review all the necessary evidence. Trump has pleaded not guilty to every charge so far, but he has not entered a plea in Georgia yet.
