Dolly Parton is donating $1 million to Vanderbilt University for COVID-19 research—and is encouraging others to donate as well.
Parton is far from the first celebrity to use their platform for good during this pandemic, but it is notable that her gift will go toward finding a solution to the situation.
"Dolly, you never cease to amaze me with your generosity and your incredible spirit!!" Reese Witherspoon commented on Instagram, while Kacey Musgraves called Parton an"earth angel."This news comes the day after Parton sent a heartfelt message to those"all around the world for sacrificing your time -- and even your lives -- to help the folks in need at this time."
"I know it's easy for us to sit at home and watch you on television and feel sorry for you because of what you're going through, but we are at war and you're on the frontlines," she continued."We just want you to know we are praying for you and we appreciate you more than you can imagine."
