There's a new Toyota Tacoma coming. Does this Brazilian patent show us exactly what it'll look like? We dig it and can't wait to learn more.
, a design patent registration published on January 24, 2023, by Brazil's Ministério do Desenvolvimento, Indústria, Comércio e Serviços Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial shows nine gray and white design images of the Toyota HiLux, giving full, unhindered views of the overseas version of our next Toyota Tacoma.
There's nothing alarming or appalling about this new Toyota; it's still very Hilux/Tacoma-esque. This is good, since it would be devastating to ruin the tried-and-true Tacoma. Scrolling through the different angles, what do you think? At first glance, it resembles a baby Tundra—the grille, the headlights, and the little aero-skirts under the headlights all scream Tundra. It's a good look. The side view is also very Tundra, with a prominent lower body line and rear window that swoops up. Whereas the body line of the Tundra is straight, the new Tacoma's trails downward toward the bottom of the front fender. The taillights also resemble the Tundra.
It feels like we've seen this truck before, and maybe we have. The Brazilian patent of the next-gen Toyotaat an in-house event previewing several of the brand's promised future EVs, after using the Shanghai auto show to declare the company's intent to bring hybrid and battery-electric powertrains to its truck lineup. The front end resemblance is spot-on.
