Last year, a rotation of Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Julio Urías and a Tony Gonsolin/Dustin May piggyback did the job. Assuming May comes back healthy next season, why shouldn’t that group be given a chance to do it again?comes to mind – and this exact question is appropriate again today. What’s changed in the meantime? The Dodgers convinced Kershaw to re-sign for less money in 2022, then saw him pitch healthier and more effectively than he did in 2021.
While you can safely pencil in one or two injured list stints for something related to Kershaw’s lower back/hip region, you can also pencil in a relatively quick bounce-back. Each back-related IL stint in the last two years has cost the three-time Cy Young Award winner roughly a month’s worth of games. Significantly, the PRP injection Kershaw received in his left elbow last offseason seemed to hold up. That injury was not an issue in 2022.
