LOS ANGELES ― Five days into the new season, the Dodgers’ offense has demonstrated a feast-or-famine quality. On a cold and windy Monday night at Dodger Stadium, they feasted.
Valencia native Jake Bird took over on the mound, and the floodgates opened. Four straight hits led to seven runs against the former UCLA standout, capped by Jason Heyward’s first home run as a Dodger. The Dodgers’ 13 runs and 13 hits were both season highs. They scored eight and 10 runs in their two wins against the Arizona Diamondbacks and only one run in each of their two losses.
