Experts have expressed concerns that these drones that use AI facial recognition may allow the targeting of specific people, raising a number of ethical issues.

There are major concerns that the use of facial recognition technology, combined with AI, could be used to target specific people, perhaps before they have even committed a crime.

"This is really the key ethical dilemma at the heart of modern drone operations overseas as the U.S. and its allies use drones to pre-emptively strike targets that are perceived to pose a potential threat at some point in the future," Ryder said. There are also issues with the facial recognition technology itself and how its lack of sophistication could lead to the wrong person entirely being targeted.
