Doctor Strange 2 writer explains why No Way Home release date switch wasn't an issue

in February 2020.

While he expected it to be a"relatively short, intense rewrite process" ahead of the sequel filming in May 2020, world events meant that the timeline shifted. It also meant that the potential rewrite turned into something bigger as Waldron, along with new director Sam Raimi, now had more time to work on the movie.

"There was initially stuff there that Jade Bartlett had worked on when Scott Derrickson was directing, and that's what we were kind of working off of," he recalls. "And then when COVID happened and the movie got pushed down to the end of 2020, that's when we said, 'Alright, let's set all that aside. Now we have the time, let's figure out what our vision for the movie is.' That was when we really started from scratch. It was daunting, but once we embraced that, it was thrilling.

"But, I was glad that I came in with institutional knowledge of the multiverse and was able to get the creative team of, that's the most important thing when you're dealing with this. You have to all have a shared language of all this stuff, otherwise it can get pretty confusing."Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
