Cleotha Abston, 38, “has been charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence,” Memphis police said in a statement.
DNA from sandals found in the street near the site of Eliza Fletcher’s disappearance led police to charge a suspect in connection with herin Tennessee, police said Sunday.
Security video from the scene showed “a black GMC Terrain passing and then waiting for the victim to run by,” according to the document. A male then exited the car, ran aggressively toward Fletcher and forced her into the passenger’s seat. Cellular records obtained by investigators are alleged to have determined that Abston’s cell phone was near the site when Fletcher was forced into the car.
Mario Abston, 36, Cleotha Abston’s brother, was also arrested, but he is not believed to be connected to Fletcher’s abduction, authorities said. He was charged with drug and firearms offenses, policeInvestigators said they believe that Fletcher “suffered serious injury” because of the violent nature of the abduction and that based on witness statements, the injuries left evidence, like blood, in Abston’s car.
