Authorities in Pensacola, Florida, have arrested a 57-year-old man -- with the help of genetic genealogy testing and a cigarette -- for the 1985 murder of a young mother.

Police said they investigated various leads over the last 35 years as"the next generation" of detectives picked up the case.

David Wells, 57, was arrested on Wednesday for the cold case murder of Tonya McKinley on New Year's Day 1985. Genetic genealogy and DNA from Wells' discarded cigarette connected him to McKinley's murder."In the meantime, a baby boy grew up without a mother, parents buried their daughter without knowing justice, and a killer was walking around free," according to police.
