The long-serving boss has a tasty rumour surrounding him but he's planted in the here and now.
Diego Simeone admits Atletico Madrid are finding it difficult amid a relentless run of games - but momentum is keeping them smiling ahead of their Celtic rematch.
The La Liga giants drew 2-2 with the Premiership champions in a pulsating Champions League draw last week, with the return leg in the Spanish capital coming on November 7th. Atletico are set to play the long-game once again with Simeone, who's been at the helm for 12 years. Spanish media reports claim that a new deal will be penned until 2027, with his clubs asking him to accept reduction in wages similar to what star forward Antoine Griezmann did when returning from Barcelona.
But it comes with a major twist. It is also suggested that "We could be looking at Simeone's last contract with Atlético de Madrid." His side won 2-1 at the weekend against Alaves and the Argentine gaffer admits the going has been tough despite eight wins out of 10 in La Liga, while remaining undefeated in Europe.
He said: "We are managing a situation that is not easy. There are many games and competitions and the team is responding very well and allows us to have this situation that we must take care of and we must continue working to have the situation we have. "The moment belongs to everyone. It belongs to the people, to the players. There is drive, energy and it vibrates. It is a beautiful moment that we and the fans have to take care of."
