Devon County Council voted to cut the service in July but a celebrity campaign won a reprieve.
Politics Reporter, BBC South WestDevon County Council's cabinet previously voted to get rid of the service in July but a campaign backed by writers Stephen Fry, Michael Rosen, and Michael Morpurgo won a reprieve.
After further analysis of costs officers at Devon County Council have still recommended "decommissioning" the service by February 2024.The report presented to cabinet said the mobile library fleet was "close to becoming obsolete given the age of the vehicles" and provided "an increasingly unreliable and patchy experience for residents".
Cheryl Cottle-Hunkin, a Liberal Democrat councillor on Torridge District Council, launched a petition to save the service. In the petition she said the mobile library service was "a lifeline" to people in rural communities and said the county council was "not taking into proper account the social impact of ending the service".
