Despite the search to identify a man unconscious at Oakland's Highland Hospital going viral on social media, officials said on Wednesday that the effort to give a patient with distinctive tattoos a name is still a mystery.
Alameda Health System spokeswoman Eleanor Ajala said that despite many phone calls to the hospital's Intensive Care Unit, where the man has been since Feb. 7, there were no confirmed matches. Ajala sought the man's identification on Tuesday, providing photos of him in a hospital bed, and also of his specific tattoos all over his body. She had hoped someone would recognize him and his body art.was shared more than 3,000 times on Facebook, with many people writing in that they hoped the man's tattoo artist or someone who knows him would come forward.
He is a white man, 5 feet 7 inches tall, 189 pounds with brown hair, and hazel or brown eyes, between 30 and 40 years old. His left fingers have the letters "J & J" tattooed on them; his left forearm has the picture of the character Jack Skellington; his right calf has a skull with snake design; and left wrist has the letters "PR."
