A judge said the couple's offending demonstrates 'that human depravity really knows no depths'
A former teacher who was jailed for raping a child alongside her boyfriend while she was deputy head at a primary school has been banned from the profession for life.
On one occasion, David Morris said of primary school-aged children: “Is it bad that that age range gets me so horny?” Between 2018 and 2021, both defendants, who were not married but have the same surname, abused a girl aged under 13, on numerous occasions. Judge Andrew Menary QC said during the trial in December 2021: "In each other you found some sort of soulmate - whether active or passive - with a shared interest in or willingness to engage in the most serious depraved and corrupting sexual abuse in relation to children."
Police said they held "multi-agency meetings" with the local education authority Wigan Council and Julie Morris was sacked from her role in September 2021. Following her conviction and sentence, she was referred to the Teaching Regulation Agency , who deals with cases of misconduct. "The panel considered that Ms Morris’ behaviour in committing these offenses would undoubtedly affect public confidence in the teaching profession, particularly given the influence that teachers may have on pupils, parents and others in the community. Her conduct ran counter to what should be at the very core of the practice of a teacher with a duty of care towards children.
The report said Julie Morris had "engaged" with the TRA and had "made full admissions expressing regret for her actions." She was also said to have had an "otherwise unblemished record."
