Denzel Ward’s record-breaking Browns contract extension ‘a blessing’ as Cleveland continues to solidify young core

Ward, who starred at Nordonia High School & Ohio State before being drafted by the Browns No. 4 overall in 2018, agreed to terms Monday on a five-year extension with Cleveland worth $100.5 million. The deal makes him the highest-paid cornerback in the NFL.

In his four-year career, Ward has compiled 10 interceptions, 50 pass breakups and 186 tackles. Ward is tied for fourth in franchise history in pass breakups and is seventh in the league in that category since his rookie season as well.“Everything happens for a reason and when stuff is meant for you, that’s when it will come to you, so I wasn’t pressed or I wasn’t in a rush to get a deal done,” Ward said.

There’s a sense of pride for Ward in being included in that group, and said the extensions provide further motivation.
