Marina Ovsyannikova, the journalist who hijacked a Russian news show to denounce the invasion of Ukraine has been hired by German newspaper Welt.

You are being lied to.’German media outlet Welt announced yesterday the 43-year-old had been hired as a freelance correspondent.said: ‘At a crucial moment, Marina Ovsyannikova had the courage to confront Russian viewers with an unembellished view of reality.
‘In doing so, she defended the most important journalistic ethics – despite the threat of state repression. I am excited to be working with her.’The journalist was fined 30,000 roubles, which is £214, by Russian courts She said in a statement: ‘Welt stands for what is being so vehemently defended by the courageous people of Ukraine on the ground right now: freedom.
‘I see it as my duty as a journalist to defend that freedom. And I am delighted to be able to do this now for Welt.’ Following her protest on Russian television, Ms Ovsyannikova was interrogated for 14 hours and branded a ‘British spy’.
