Lady Deer cruise to 22-6A track and field championship
It's another smooth handoff of the baton Thursday night for two of Deer Park's 4 by 400 squad. that won the district title with the time of 4:15.85.With 21 competitors scoring points, the Deer Park High School girls track and field team easily claimed the District 22-6A championship Thursday night, totaling 205 points for the coveted crown at Allan Brown Stadium.
Deer Park’s list of 21 athletes scoring points was directed by the duo of Katelyn Smith and Alyssa Carroll scoring 23 points each. They represented 50 percent of the 4 by 400 contingent. Freshman Rylee Endsley and senior Aliyah Haugh were the other two. “In pole vault, we had a freshman we brought up from the JV. Kaya Cromeens was able to go her personal best of 7 feet that put her in third. We’re proud of that. Everybody else pretty much did what we expected. There’s a lot of great athletes in this district and we have a lot of young girls. We expected to win last year and Dobie got us. So that was on our minds of not taking our foot off the gas,” Lounsbury said.
In the running events, Deer Park was at its best in the 100-meter hurdles when the trio of Smith, Carroll and Kylin Chavez went 1-2-3 with readings of 15.07, 15.94 and 17.44 seconds, respectively. Then in the 1600-meter run, the four trips around the track featured Peyton Collier collecting second place in 5:50.22 and freshman Kaydence Creel scoring fourth with a 5:59.43 effort.
