Lorna Dempsey's Butterfly Events has soared to the grand total after 17 years of hosting glitzy bashes in aid of Cancer Research.
An Ayrshire mum has told how a charity organisation she started after losing a friend to cancer has raised half a million to fund research - whilst having a ball.
Every penny raised has gone direct to Cancer Research UK – with the funds helping labs in Scotland develop new treatments to tackle the disease. And on Sunday, October 8, they held a huge celebration of reaching that goal, with an all-ladies Butterfly Bazar event at Ayr Racecourse.“In 2005 I organised a small tiny event in Dalmellington and raised £200 which I thought was great.
“The money is kept in Scotland it actively funding treatments at the Beatson Institute Centre in Glasgow.” Lorna added: “I saw Lauren’s story on Ayrshire Live, earlier this year and sent her a private message.“I told her a wee bit more about our events and asked her to come along and share her story.“The drug that saved Lauren’s life was made possible thanks to same research centre we’ve raised money for.
