Little distractions have not stopped me from doing my job, but I think they are not helping it grow.
With the support of neighbors and friends, my hobby turned into a small business. Now I am able to work from home and make a decent living for myself.
I love it, but have hit a few bumps because while working from home, there are so many distractions. I’ll be working on an email list or writing for a client and realize I didn’t fold the clothes. When the dishwasher dings, I want to get the dishes out. These little distractions have not stopped me from doing my job but I think they are not helping it grow.
Someone suggested a to-do list, but that sounds cheesy. I’m thinking of trying it to see if it helps, but why are people always talking about a to-do list when it’s just notes on a paper? Thank you for your help.I’m just going to tell you upfront: I love to-do lists! Yes, I’m in that group of people and will share the reasons why.Second, your situation is not uncommon. Many people who are responsible for household duties are distracted by them when working at home.
The lists are not for everyone and may not work for you. They are actually goal oriented and you can write down whatever you need to help you feel accomplished. I actually include household responsibilities on my list. Making a list prioritizes what needs to be done and offers that focus to complete what needs to be done. It’s like a daily goal and checking off each thing gives you a sense of achievement. This lessens the distractions because you realize completing the list is taking you further in your business. You visually see what you have accomplished or not accomplished to help you refocus to get the work done rather than be distracted.
