Gray celebrates his Easter Road testimonial against a Manchester United XI on Sunday.
David Gray admits he might not have scored the biggest goal of his career which saw him crowned a Hibs legend - because he was so knackered.
Gray will celebrate his testimonial on Sunday in a team featuring many of that side against a Manchester United XI led by his former Old Trafford team mate Darren Fletcher. And reflecting on his greatest moment, the now first team coach also revealed the first thing he got after bulging the Hampden net was an apology from ref Steven McLean followed swiftly by a yellow card.
“I remember I was breathing heavily at that point. I was absolutely knackered because I’d done a bit of pressing just before it. “But I do remember vividly walking up and setting it up because we had talked about how big an opportunity set pieces were.“With Hendo just coming on and his delivery.. as soon as the ball left Hendo’s foot I knew I was getting it. It took quite a bit of time to come in but when I watch it back I actually think they should do better, I don’t think I should get it. The defender should clear it. But as soon as I got my head on it I knew the contact was good and that I had scored.
