This year’s campaign tells the story of Julie Grant and her dad, Tom, who died in the In-Patient Unit in May earlier this year while receiving end-of-life care for motor neurone disease.
The Ayrshire Hospice is launching its annual Light up a Life appeal where it invites the local community across Ayrshire to remember their loved ones at what can be an emotional time of year.
Remaining at home initially, he would be visited by Amy, from the Hospice’s Specialist Palliative Care Team, who would spend time to understand his care requirements. “When he passed away the team were just amazing with us – the whole family felt their care and support. She added: “My dad loved Christmas and always spent it surrounded by us, his lucky family. This Christmas I know my dad would be so happy if he knew his story and experience could touch others. That’s why my family are supporting the Light up a Life appeal.”
