Only one lane in each direction will be open at the intersection of Ontario Street and St. Clair Avenue in downtown Cleveland.
The Cleveland Water Department announced on Twitter that the traffic restrictions at the intersection of Ontario Street and St. Clair Avenue will be in place as the department assesses the damage and makes repairs at the site. There will be no parking on either street near the Justice Center until further notice.
Officers will be at the intersection on Monday to direct traffic during rush hour, the Cleveland Police Department says. Police are encouraging residents to avoid the area. The break in the water main at about 10:30 a.m. Sunday was caused by a plug at the end of a 10-inch main line giving way, according to the water department. A large section of the road collapsed because of the break and there was significant flooding near the Justice Center and Public Square.
The water department did not give an estimate on how long it would take to repair the waterline and road surface. It did say that drinking water remains safe and that no customers had lost service.
