Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn strongly supported the pick. At Thursday’s hearing of the committee, on which both Texas Republicans sit, Cornyn said Diggs came out of the evaluation process with “flying colors.”

“Diggs’ leadership, character and commitment to the rule of law will serve the Eastern District of Texas well,” Cornyn said.Cornyn and Cruz both lobbied for his appointment after Diggs emerged as a top pick from the panel of lawyers the senators rely on to screen applicants for the federal bench and prosecutor jobs.

“Damien is a skilled prosecutor and community leader, and his nomination sends a strong, positive message of how far we have come as a nation. I look forward to his swift confirmation,” Cruz said in aDiggs graduated from Towson University in suburban Baltimore and earned his law degree at American University in 2003. He began working in the U.S. Attorney’s office in the Northern District of Texas in 2018 and is currently an assistant U.S. attorney.

In 2020, he oversaw complaints related to election fraud and voting rights. That same year he helped secureAs of February, Biden has named U.S. attorneys for 68 of the nation’s 93 districts.. Rebekah Alvey is completing a masters degree in Journalism at American University. Before coming to D.C. she attended Western Kentucky University where she studied Journalism and Arabic.
