Washington said it’s very serious that Mabry, a police officer who should be held to higher standards, “committed a crime and failed to come forward.” He said Saenz was extremely emotional when he learned about the new charges.The police department’s public-integrity unit had said in internal documents that the Saenz case involved Mabry, Williams and Officer Victor Rocha. Washington said new evidence cleared Rocha and Williams of involvement in that case, but he declined to provide specifics.
Prosecutors also filed a charge of official oppression against Williams in the prominent case involving Vincent Doyle. Williams had already facedVincent Doyle said he was struck by a so-called less lethal bullet during a protest in downtown Dallas. A grand jury declined in November to indict Williams in Doyle’s case, but the district attorney’s office filed a misdemeanor assault charge — which does not require a grand jury’s decision — a month later.
