Next steps include beginning design and engineering work would begin to further flesh out the project and how current nearby landmarks like Pioneer Cemetery and Pioneer Plaza fit in.At the 100-employee organization, the question is how to continue the transformation with a mindfulness of what people want from a city center at this stage of a pandemic.
Working with Rawlings, Scripps launched the monthlong program early in her tenure, as part of efforts to showcase the full range of Dallas arts programming.Scripps described her move to DDI as “almost full circle in some ways.” Scripps entered city hall in 2016. Her first priority was updating the city's then 16-year-old Cultural Plan, the blueprint for its engagement with Dallas arts groups.
Finalized in 2018, one of its biggest goals was to unite Dallas’ arts institutions from the big names to the smaller players, opening up lines for communication and collaboration. According to Rawlings, “Everybody started to realize that they were all in this together for a large mission, not just fighting over a piece of pie. And it’s probably the psychic benefit that is the greatest, that we don’t have this class struggle.”to set district-wide protocols for operating during the pandemic and tweak them as the situation evolved.
